Friends of the Wakefield Libraries, FOWL, is an organization established in 1987 to encourage understanding, appreciation and support of Wakefield’s two libraries. It serves as a medium through which friends of the libraries may become acquainted and share their enthusiasm for books and other media. As a group, we focus on how to better serve the needs of the libraries; where some time is spent raising funds to aid the library when the needs go beyond the library budget.
The Friends meet at 12:00 on the second Wednesday of every month. Except for the summer months of July and August, we meet in the back room of Poor People’s Pub to enjoy lunch while learning about the current status of the library and its programs.
We are a non-profit community gathering place for Seniors. We offer Senior Lunches, bingo, chair yoga, and other community activities. The GED meets here and we have a beautiful dining hall available for rent if you are having an event.
